Mr. Jonathan Juana Kamanda
The National Treasurer and Branch Chairman of the Western Area Branch of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, Mr. Jonathan Juana Kamanda, on behalf of his family and himself on Saturday, 5 September 2009 made a donation of twenty office furniture (four drawer-office tables) to the SLRCS at the main Office of the Western Area Branch on 6 Pultney Street. The presentation ceremony which was done in the presence of the National President, the Secretary General, the Communications Coordinator, some members of the branch executive committee and volunteers of the Western Area Branch, started at 10.00am..
The Secretary General receiving the donated furniture on behalf of the SLRCS expressed sincere appreciation to Mr. Kamanda for what he described as an exemplary gesture. Adding that the Western Area Branch has always served as the first port of call for visitors and the headquarters looks up to the Western Area branch to uphold and improve on that as management in line with the decentralization plan of the SLRCS is determined to strengthen the capacity of branches in terms of development and resource mobilization so that they too can be self-reliant.
This is the first time in the history of the SLRCS that a Sierra Leonean and a member of the SLRCS is donating items worth Le20,000,000.00 (Twenty million Leones) an equivalence of $6,600.00 (Six thousand six hundred US Dollars) and it serves as an example for other members of the SLRCS and Sierra Leoneans to emulate.
