Partnership News

Our Partnership meeting this year was held in Freetown 25-26 February with partners from BrRC, CRC, FnRC, NLRC, SpRC, SwRC, and the ICRC and Federation. The newly appointed Secretary General of Côte d’Ivoire RC also attended. At the meeting, we tried to underscore the point that as a National Society, the transformation was being rolled out and yielding positive results.

PARTNERSHIP AND CIVIL SOCIETY ENGAGEMENT

The Sierra Leone Red Cross will strengthen its partnership with the European Union and the Global fund for AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis (GFAMT) in the areas of disaster management, health, water and sanitation and community reintegration and development. It will continue to explore the possibility of widening the network from which it receives support for the implementation of its programmes by developing partnerships with institutions such as the Department for International Development Fund (DFID) and UN agencies through which IFDAs channel their funding for Sierra Leone. SLRCS will also improve on its funding base by widening the network of its out-of-country alliances.

RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT COLLABORATION

In 2005, there were discussions and consultative meetings between delegation and SLRCS senior management staff and governance on how to integrate the various services the delegation is currently running. The integration plan has been approved by the NS governance. A task force has been now set up to monitor progress in the implementation of the integration plan. As from January 2007, the two logistics units (SLRCS and Federation) have been integrated. The process of integrating the administrative units is also in progress. The next step over the coming months will be to agree on a model and timeframe for how Federation financial management can be integrated into that of the SLRCS.

A good working relationship has been maintained between all components of the Movement under the auspices of the Movement Coordination Group (MCG) and the Technical Programme Coordination Groups(TPCGs). Thematic meetings are held at various levels; between the President, Acting Secretary General and HoDs of the Federation and the ICRC and with programme coordinators.
